EMERGENCY DENTIST
Dental emergencies can happen unexpectedly, whether through an accident, injury, severe toothache, or a lost restoration. At Chelsea Dental Studio, we understand how distressing these situations can be and aim to offer same-day emergency appointments whenever possible to relieve pain and protect your oral health.
If you experience a dental emergency, please contact the practice immediately. Our team will advise you on what to do before your appointment and arrange to see you as soon as possible.
Common Dental Emergencies

Chipped or Broken Tooth
If a tooth has chipped or fractured:
- Rinse your mouth with warm water.
- Apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce swelling.
- If you find any broken pieces of the tooth, bring them with you if possible.
Contact us promptly so we can assess the damage and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Injuries to the Lips, Tongue or Cheeks
Minor soft tissue injuries often heal well, but deeper cuts may require professional treatment.
- Rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water.
- Apply gentle pressure with clean gauze or a clean cloth to help stop any bleeding.
- Use a cold compress to reduce swelling.
- If the bleeding is heavy, does not stop after 10–15 minutes of firm pressure, or the injury is severe, seek urgent medical attention or attend your nearest Accident & Emergency (A&E) department.
Severe Toothache
Persistent or severe toothache is often a sign of infection, deep decay, or inflammation inside the tooth and should not be ignored.
Until you can see a dentist:
- Brush and floss gently to remove any trapped food.
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water.
- Take over-the-counter pain relief if appropriate, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Your dentist will identify the cause of the pain and recommend the most appropriate treatment, which may include a filling, root canal treatment, periodontal treatment, or, in some cases, tooth extraction.
